The professionals at QuickPro Locksmith provide drivers of Atlanta, Brookhaven, Chamblee, Tucker, Norcross, Smyrna, Stone Mountain and other Metro Atlanta area communities with urgent auto lockout emergencies. However, we understand there are times, places and situations where a motorist might not have access to quality locksmith services and needs to get inside their car fast. While we never recommend breaking into your vehicle, there are a few methods that can cause less damage than breaking a window or drilling a lock.
Warnings and Disclaimers
It’s important to know that lockout situations can be dangerous. If you have a child or pet locked in the car, please call 911 right away and get help from a professional emergency care provider. If you do choose to break into your vehicle, be aware that you may cause extensive injury to your car or truck. The damages could end up costing much more to repair than hiring a professional locksmith. Also, be sure to never use the information provided here to break into someone else’s vehicle, this post is intended only to help a frustrated car owner get back into their own car, truck or van in an urgent situation when locksmith services are unavailable.
Manual Lock Method
Use a tool such as a putty knife to open the top of the car door as much as possible. A door stop, screwdriver or other implement can be slipped through and used to pry the door out enough to slip a wire through. Locate a long piece of wire, such as a coat hanger, and create a tool that can loop around the locking mechanism. There is usually a switch located near the handle. Bend your wire in a way that will allow you to either push the switch to the unlock position, or lasso the handle and push it open.
Automatic Lock Method
This method is similar to the manual lock scenario. The main difference is going to be the shape of the tool. The manual device requires a loop, and the automatic lock will most likely need a pointed or blunt end that can be used to push the unlock button down.
Trunk Method
If you have a large trunk, or drive a van or SUV, you might have an easier time breaking into the back. Some manual vehicles could have a separate key for the trunk and therefore be accessible or left unlocked. If that’s the case, you should be able to push the back seats forward and out of the way, and crawl to the front to unlock the driver side door.
While these methods might be able to get you inside your vehicle, breaking into your car isn’t recommended. Shattered windows, damaged locks and broken doors are all significantly more expensive than a basic lockout service from a professional locksmith.
